Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda College
The great Visionary and philanthropist late Ashtavaidyan Padmasree E.T.Neelakandhan Mooss founded Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda College ,Ollur Thaikkattussery in 1976, a legacy that epitomized the Vaidyaratnam Ayurvedic Educational Society in 1975 as the pioneering effort to promote qualitative teaching and training of Ayurveda. Aiming radical reforms to improve academic standards for producing competent Ayuvedic Physicians, the college started functioning on October 2 nd 1976 , offering B.A.M (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine) Degree Programme. Ashtavaidyan E.T Narayanan Mooss is also the president of the Vaidyaratnam Ayurvedic Educational Society is the Manager of the college. The college is Affiliated to University of Calicut .
 
Since 1979, the College offers B.A.M.S (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) Degree Course with the All India unified syllabus as per the Central Council of Indian Medicine norms. This Degree Programme incorporates advanced aspects of conventional biomedicine and technology, which produced trained graduates of Ayurveda for the future. Students are admitted for the BAMS from the list of medical entrance examination conducted by the Government of Kerala. The present intake for the degree programme is Forty students. The duration of B.A.M.S. Degree course is for 3 Professionals (terms) consisting 18 months each and 12 months compulsory rotatory internship.

Currently Dr.K.G.Viswanathan is the Principal of the College.

The College has got 13 teaching departments which awaits final approval of Government. Creation of One more departments for Panchakarma is also under the active consideration of the authorities. The departments are equipped with modern facilities of teaching aids and lab equipments.

Proposal for starting P.G. Programme in Kaumarabhruthya, Rasasasthra and Bhaishajyakalpana have been submitted and are under consideration by Government.

The total strength of teaching staff is Forty Nine and five of them Posses Ph.d.

In the campus of the College there is a herbarium with rare medicinal plants.

The College has two hospitals with bed strength of about 150. Attached to the hospital, X-ray Unit and Ultra Sound scan unit are functioning .

The College has got a Library with a total collection of over 8000 books which includes some rare collections . Digitalization of the Library system is in progress. Internet facility is provided in the library to teachers and students.

The College has separate hostels for boys and girls in the campus.

The Pay and allowance of the staff based on the position at the time of Direct Payment are given by the Government. The recurring contingent expenses of the College are largely funded by the Vaidyaratnam Ayurvedic Educational Society. Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) provides financial assistance for purchase of equipments , library books and also for certain capital expenditure like construction of hostel and Academic block.
